The Faculty of Geodesy, Geospatial and Civil Engineering (GGCE) (to 31.12.2014 The Faculty of Geodesy and Land Management) is one of seventeen faculties of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. The University is located in one of the most beautiful university campuses in Europe. Our region has been well-endowed by nature with beautiful forests and numerous lakes. This beauty is experienced every day by the academic community of Olsztyn. The geographical and natural environment determine the scope of research and education at the university.
The Faculty of Geodesy, Geospatial and Civil Engineering (GGCE) has over 50 years of history. There are over two and a half thousand students studying at two fields of study: geodesy and cartography and land management. The faculty has over 150 staff members, including 114 academic teachers, out of whom 18 are professors and doctors with habilitation. Thanks to them, the faculty has the rights to confer the degree of doctor and habilitated doctor in the field of geodesy and cartography.
We create good conditions for studying, giving our students access to many computer labs and specialist laboratories and equipment. We cooperate with many foreign universities. Within Erasmus LLP, our students may study for at least one semester at our partner universities in Spain, United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, France and others.
Our faculty with interdisciplinary teaching staff prepares students to work in the following fields: engineering geodesy, satellite geodesy, higher geodesy, geomatics and spatial information systems, numerical cartography, digital photogrammetry and Internet photogrammetry, close range photogrammetry, land management, cadastral survey and common appraisal, mathematics and mathematical statistics, spatial reconstruction, positioning and navigation systems, remote sensing and photointerpretation, theory of deterministic chaos in dynamic analyses, theory of environment and real estate evaluation. Students of land management are prepare to work in local governments in the fields of real estate management and turnover, special design, property counselling and expertise. Research on application of global satellite navigation systems, improving methods of acquiring, gathering and processing geodetic and satellite data and their use in spatial information systems as well as optimizing methods of space management are only a few examples of scientific fields of interest of the faculty employees.
